Identity (philosophy), also called sameness, is whatever makes an entity(person) definable and recognizable.
I have been living in this world for 38 years and never fully understood the concept of identity. I have just been downplaying this concept because I never saw the importance. I thought it was obvious that my identity was where I come from e.g. my parents and family.
The year 2014 has made me look deeper on this subject. I have learned that what makes me, me, is the source of my creation. If you are a Christian or have looked into Christianity, you will know these bible verses:
- Genesis 1:27 ESV
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."
- 2 Corinthians 1:22a NLT
- Jeremiah 1:5 ESV
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
One of the characteristics of love (God) is kindness. Kindness is love in action, it reaches out. It takes time to listen, then takes steps to help. Sometimes instead of proving that you are right, how about you try to understand and reach out to the next person in kindness? Kindness is described in scripture as how God freely extends His grace to us (His children) (Ephesians 2:6-9). I believe that we need to follow this example by being kind to one another. And let's not forget that charity begins at home☺. Remember that in life one has to go first. Apologize first. Be vulnerable first. Yield first. Forgive first. Why not let that person be you?
I may not be perfect, but God loves me anyway. I know that I will daily meet challenges, however, being true to my identity, I need to remind myself that I am not just living for me, otherwise I would be in a world where I all alone to see to my needs for me and only me. No man is an island. I am grateful to live in a world where I can interact with other people, while learning and growing through them.
I love my identity for it is wrapped with great characteristics.
